This forest site demonstrates forest succesion from Oregon White Oak to Douglas Fir. The Oak Savanah was created prior to European settlement by Native American fire management . The fires stopped after settlement and fire resistant Oak progressed into thick stands. Following this, Douglas Fir spread into the site and over time will dominate the Oak forests and grasslands by shading out other species.
